What's happening at Fuller's for Cask Ale Week 2022

Cask Ale week is taking place from 22 September to 2 October. It’s an opportunity for pubs to get involved and encourage their customers to try real ale through events and activities throughout the week. Here's what's happening in Fuller's pubs...

Formed in the early noughties by Cask Marque, Cask Ale Week is supported by the major trade organisations, brewers and pub groups as well as The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). Cask Ale is a beer that’s worth celebrating, hence why there’s a whole week dedicated to it!

WHAT IS A CASK ALE?

Cask ale, also known as cask-conditioned beer or ‘real’ ale, is a brew that undergoes secondary fermentation in the barrel. The beer is untouched, unfiltered and unpasteurised. All brewers do is put fresh live beer straight into the barrel where it remains alive and kicking until it’s served. The live yeast eats away at the sugars, turning them into alcohol and creates soft carbonation. It also rounds off rough flavour edges and brings a greater depth of flavour.

This process happens in the pub cellar and the quality of the pint depends on how well the pub looks after it. It’s key that the cellar is spotless and the beer is stored at the right temperature and pulled through pristine pipes with rapid regularity. Using a hand-operated hydraulic pump, the beer is then drawn up from the cellar, straight into a glass and served.

FULLER'S VINTAGE ALE 2022

Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2022 will be exclusively available on cask in selected Fuller’s pubs. An annual limited-edition brew, Fuller's Vintage Ale is the most special beer to leave the Griffin Brewery each year and having the option to try a freshly poured pint in a Fuller's pub during Cask Ale Week makes it even better.

Launching on 22 September, the 26th edition of Vintage Ale which combines the UK classic hop, Brambling Cross with a younger variety, Emperor. Brambling Cross brings dark berry notes and some hints of spice, whilst the Emperor adds a strong citrus fruit character. At its heart, Pale Ale and Caragold malts combine with DRC, a double roasted crystal malt to deliver toffee and raisin sweetness. All complemented, as ever, by the zesty marmalade character of the famous Fuller's yeast.

Every Vintage Ale recipe is unique from the last - yet all have to mature, with the flavours developing over time.

Here is the list of pubs serving the Fuller's Vintage Ale

SIREN RED LIONESS

Red Lioness is a 4.5% Red IPA - one of Siren's longstanding favourite styles to brew is making its way into Fuller's pubs during Cask Ale Week. Siren use a blend of seven different speciality malts to build a deep red colour to the beer, as well as a rich malt base which brings smooth biscuit and raisin notes. The beer has then been liberally hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo and Eclipse to overlay the malt base with crisp pine and mandarin notes. As a Fuller’s exclusive, its name acts as both nod to the most common Fuller’s pub name, as well as paying tribute to our European Champions!

AND FINALLY...

Keep and eye on the Fuller's social media for news on special guest brews available throughout Cask Ale Week, which includes beers from Tiny Rebel, Moor, Twickenham Ales, Fyne Ales, Utopian and more. Plus there will be an exciting reveal of ESB's new look - a legendary beer enjoying a re-brand after 50 years at the top of its game, so stay tuned!
