Gemma & Jon’s Art Deco inspired wedding at The George IV in Chiswick
When Gemma and Jon were searching for the perfect wedding venue in Chiswick, they took one look at the Art Deco inspired Boston Room at The George IV and the rest was history.
The happy couple tied the knot on Sunday 26 August 2018, and we asked them to share what it was like to have their wedding breakfast and reception at The George IV – including the venue, the styling, the food and the entertainment.
Why did you choose The George IV as your wedding venue?
“We originally saw the venue online when we were looking for somewhere for our reception that was near our ceremony venue. We emailed The George IV and set up a time to visit a week or so later. From the first time we met the team and saw the Boston Room, it was an easy decision and we booked it straight away,” Gemma explained.
“We loved the Art Deco styling of the room, and the booths created a cool and slightly different top table set up. We also ate in the pub on our first visit, so we knew the food was tasty – we even ended up with the starter we had that day as part of our evening buffet. The team were really organised, friendly and down to earth throughout.”
What was your inspiration behind the styling?
“We took our main inspiration from the room itself. We loved the gold and navy colours and Art Deco style. Jon wore a blue suit and my bridesmaid had a navy dress. We then added some extra touches of gold with tea lights and fun sequin table runners to add to the glamour. Beyond that we didn’t have a colour scheme (much to the horror of some people!) and the flowers we had were deep reds with plenty of leaves, or ‘jewel tones and foliage’ as our fab florist The Bloomery would say!
“Jon drew the table names himself of different holiday locations we’ve been to as he’s really arty, and for place names we used Polaroid photos from those holidays – many of which included our guests. Beyond that we just kept things simple to let the Boston Room speak for itself.
“In terms of the finished look, the credit goes to The George IV team. We dropped everything off the day before and had chatted through things we liked. They then pulled it all together overnight to create such a beautiful space.”
The Wedding Breakfast
“For the main we knew we wanted lamb as it is our favourite meal. And beyond that we were absolutely spoilt for choice. We have lots of friends who are vegetarian and the celeriac gnocchi we had was such a hit! So many of them have told us it’s the best veggie wedding food they have had!
“We also provided plenty of wine with the meal – both red and white – and naturally had to sample plenty on another visit to the pub before our wedding which was great fun. Having our own private bar in the Boston Room also worked really well as it meant everyone could get whatever drinks they wanted without having to leave the space.”

The entertainment
“We found a super band called Gravity through Tailored Entertainment. They had a great funky and fun style and did a brilliant range of music. They played some acoustic music during our Wedding Breakfast and then kept the dance floor packed all night long! I’d hire them again in a flash, and the set up with the small stage in the Boston Room worked so well to give the room a focus.”
What was your favourite moment of the day?
“Oh, this is tough! Our favourite part has to be actually getting married itself – we just couldn’t stop grinning. There are so many special moments throughout the whole day too.
“When we first walked into the Boston Room I was so amazed. We had popped in the previous day to drop off things like the table runners and cake, but hadn’t seen it all dressed and lit. I was so taken aback looking at how it had all come together. The table settings and flowers looked amazing and the twinkling gold candles created such a beautiful effect. It took me a few minutes to even notice the band playing!
“The other special moment was our confetti throw, which wouldn’t have happened without the Events Manager Christina and The George IV team. Despite getting married in one of the hottest summers ever it rained on the day, so we hadn’t been able to use confetti at our ceremony. I wanted to do the confetti throw at The George IV, but I had accidently left the confetti behind.
“I mentioned this to Christina at about 6pm, by which time the shops were closed as it was a Sunday. She said to leave it with her. Not long afterwards, she reappeared with confetti – I was amazed! She used rose petals that they had behind the bar for cocktails, but no one could tell. It was the little touches like that which made the day absolutely awesome, and we are so glad we chose The George IV.”
“We’d recommend anyone considering having their wedding at The George IV to go for it. It’s such a beautiful venue and the Event Manager Christina was a dream to work with!” - Gemma & Jon.Gemma & Jon's wedding at a glance:
