What is a pop-up restaurant?

The term ‘pop-up restaurant’ was practically non-existent a few years ago. It all stemmed from The Churchill Arms in Kensington, which was the pioneer for Thai franchise kitchens operating in pubs across Britain. Since then, numerous Thai kitchens have opened within pubs, sparking the delicious and unique pop-up kitchen movement, with a variety of kitchens being taken over by talented chefs to provide unique and interesting dining experiences.

Over the past five years, The Sun & 13 Cantons has hosted established chefs such as Adam Rawson (Head chef at Pachamama), Andy Cook (Head Chef at The Savoy Grill) and Matthew Bishop (Head Chef at Gordon Ramsey’s Maze). One of the most successful pop-ups at the Sun & 13 Cantons has been Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express, and now it’s home to Ukrainian pop-up, Pampushka.

What is Pampushka?

Pampushka is the brainchild of an Anglo-Ukrainian family made up of Maksym Shpachynskyi, his wife Elisha Shpachynska and their brother-in-law, Rob Neale. Their mission is to showcase some of Ukraine’s most loved dishes, while adding their own British twist, creating a diverse menu served up with warm, friendly service in one of Soho’s liveliest pubs.
