Q&A with England rugby players at The Cabbage Patch
World-famous Twickenham rugby pub The Cabbage Patch hosted a free Q&A session with three England Rugby players – providing fans with an insight into the team’s road to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
The event, which was organised by Guinness, was hosted at The Cabbage Patch on 4 July and included England Rugby players Piers Francis, Willi Heinz and Ben Te’o – whom were announced as part of the England’s Training Squad on the same day.
Arriving at the pub directly from training at The Lensbury Club, the players spoke about their recent holidays before training started, what a typical day in camp was like, and their career highlights. They also answered questions from the audience and stayed for photos at the end.
Gearing up for the Rugby World Cup
Ben told the audience about the team’s intense training regime at the camp, but he had no qualms at the amount of training and effort that he and the team were putting in.
“What we’re doing right now and what we’re working towards is the pinnacle of rugby in my opinion,” he said.
“There are so many quality teams that are going to be in this world cup, I think it’s the most even playing field we’ve had. First up to beat is Tonga, and then we’ll take on the rest in our pool and go from there.”
When asked what their rugby career highlights were, Piers said his international debut against Argentina was “a dream come true”.
For Willi, he said it was making it into the training squad: “It’s a massive honour and one that I didn’t think that I was going to get, so being involved is awesome and I’m making the most of the opportunity that’s ahead of me.”
For Ben, winning was always his highlight.
England Rugby Q&A: Ben Te’o, Willi Heinz, The Cabbage Patch Manager Stuart Green, and Piers Francis.
A famous pub for rugby
Stuart Green, Manager of The Cabbage Patch and the interviewer for the Q&A event, said it’s always a privilege to host special rugby events.
“Rugby fans from all over the world know this is the place to come before a match and we try to run as many events like this as possible. We do a lot of podcasts and Q&A events with the players, and we often have the England rugby team in.”
Stuart said the world-famous rugby pub is already taking bookings for the Rugby World Cup matches, and there is a four-year waiting list to get a hospitality package for the Six Nations.
“We’re already taking bookings for the Rugby World Cup – we will be screening all the games live, and we encourage early bookings to secure a spot. We’re also screening England’s warm-up games in August against Ireland and Wales, and we have spaces for that, too.
“Businesses from all over the country book hospitality packages at The Cabbage Patch for the big rugby events. They come here because it’s a great experience – you can’t beat the atmosphere.”
