The Anglers is closing for an exciting new makeover

Popular Teddington pub The Anglers is closing for major refurbishment on New Year’s Day and will reopen with a fresh new look in April 2019.

The Anglers building, which is situated on the Thames next to Teddington Lock, has existed since the mid-18th century and was acquired by Fuller’s in 2010. It was a popular pub among local fisherman, which inspired its name.

Today, The Anglers is one of our busiest pubs, especially during the summertime when the garden and outdoor bar – which accommodates 300 people – is humming with activity.

But having been around for about 160 years, the beloved pub requires tender loving care from time to time.

A new beginning for The Anglers

The Anglers will close its doors at 10pm on New Year’s Day and is expected to reopen mid-April 2019 – just in time for the warmer weather.

Pub Manager Ben Walton said the four-month makeover will be worth the wait.

“Our new dining area will have better views of the Thames, as will our amazing new Function room and upstairs bar. This will be for any event, such as private dining, meetings, mini conferences and comedy nights. In fact, we will be able to cater for almost any type of event.

"Our gardens will get some much-needed TLC with improved bike parking, kids’ activities and al fresco dining options, as well as a few surprises for good measure.”

The refurbishment will also include replacing the conservatory, new improved toilets, and a complete makeover for the restaurant, pub, kitchen and bar areas.

Operations Manager Mark Viney said: “We’re delighted and excited to be able to take the Anglers to the next level with this complete makeover and there’s a lot to look forward too. It’s a large investment that we are undertaking and shows our commitment to the residents of Teddington completely changing it to ensure we give the best experience we can in the future.

“The Anglers will be a brand-new outstanding riverside pub, restaurant and venue, and will have a traditional yet modern and upbeat feel. We look forward to seeing what our customers think when we open in April and reveal The Anglers transformation!”

The Anglers is located at 3 Broom Road, Teddington, and will be closed for refurbishment from 10pm 1 January to mid-April 2019.
