Fuller’s Managers take the LEAP with new Apprenticeship programme
We have launched a new apprenticeship programme designed to give managers the skills and knowledge required to take their leadership to the next level – gaining an internationally recognised Level 5 management qualification.
The new Leadership Exploration Apprenticeship Programme (LEAP), which started in September, takes 18 months to complete and is taught through workshops at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry, online webinars, coaching sessions and independent self-study.
Almost 20 of Fuller's pub managers attended the first programme [pictured below], which is centred around the Operations/Departmental Manager apprenticeship standard – a highly regarded Level 5 Leadership and Management programme – and is delivered in partnership with Lifetime Training and Leading Results.
Taking the LEAP
Fuller’s Group Development Manager Mark Peters said: “Our new Leadership Exploration Apprenticeship Programme is designed to support the development of our pub managers. Investing in our people and building their skills and capabilities will always be a priority at Fuller’s. The family ethos that we have and our focus on our people is what truly makes a difference.”
Key learnings include creating and delivering operational plans, talent management, coaching and mentoring, project management, leadership, change management, and financial and resource management.
LEAP Apprentice Liam McKewon, General Manager of The Hercules in Lambeth, has worked for Fuller’s since 2016 – first as general manager of Grand Central in Brighton, before moving to The Hercules in March 2019.
Commenting on why he is doing the apprenticeship, he said: “As a general manager you wear a lot of hats – financial, HR, marketing, kitchen and front of house. A lot of being a general manager is reactive, so the programme allows you to take a clearer look at yourself and how you approach things, and what you can improve on,” Liam explained.
“I’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain from doing the programme. It’s free education, relevant to my career, and in what scenario is getting better at your job ever a bad thing?”
