What's happening at Fuller's for Cask Ale Week 2020

National Cask Ale week takes place from 24 September to 4 October. There’s a lot going on in pubs and online — from glasses to giveaways, here’s how Fuller’s is getting involved.

WHAT IS A CASK ALE?

Cask ale, also known as cask-conditioned beer or ‘real’ ale, is a brew that undergoes secondary fermentation in the barrel. The beer is untouched, unfiltered and unpasteurised. All brewers do is put fresh live beer straight into the barrel where it remains alive and kicking until it’s served. The live yeast eats away at the sugars, turning them into alcohol and creates soft carbonation. It also rounds off rough flavour edges and brings a greater depth of flavour.

This process happens in the pub cellar and the quality of the pint depends on how well the pub looks after it. It’s key that the cellar is spotless and the beer is stored at the right temperature and pulled through pristine pipes with rapid regularity. Using a hand-operated hydraulic pump, the beer is then drawn up from the cellar, straight into a glass and served.

It’s a beer that’s worth celebrating, hence why there’s a whole week dedicated to it. Here’s what’s happening in Fuller’s pubs throughout Cask Ale Week.

THE LONDON PRIDE PINT GLASSES ARE BACK

Following on from the success of the London Pride limited edition 60th Birthday print glasses, London Pride has created a new collectors pint glass to celebrate Cask Ale Week and they’re giving them away for free in Fuller’s pubs.

To get your glass, visit any Fuller’s pub across England throughout Cask Ale Week and buy a pint of London Pride. When you purchase your first pint a staff member will give you a London Pride collectors card, and for every pint of Pride you buy, you will receive a stamp.

Once you have collected four stamps, show a staff member and they will hand over your free limited-edition London Pride pint glass to take away from the pub (while stocks last).

Find a pub near you for a pint of London Pride.

FULLER'S VINTAGE ALE 2020

From 1 October, Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2020 will be exclusively available on cask in selected Fuller’s pubs. An annual limited-edition brew, Fuller's Vintage Ale is the most special beer to leave the Griffin Brewery each year and having the option to try a freshly poured pint in a Fuller's pub during Cask Ale Week makes it even more special.

Every Vintage Ale recipe is unique from the last - yet all have to mature, with the flavours developing over time. This year’s Vintage Ale has stayed true to its roots, with all the ingredients sourced here in the UK. The story starts with a Double Roasted Crystal (DRC) malt from East Anglia that promises malty sweetness rich in caramel and raisin. Then there’s the Hertfordshire hops - Jester and Godiva, which add ripe berry and tangy citrus notes to the signature marmalade flavours of the famous Fuller’s yeast.
