New Forest Wildlife Park
This verdant Forest is brimming with wildlife. Take a walk along the woodland trails and admire the European bison, wallaby and wild boar. Alternatively, say hello to the playful otters and friendly deer check out the amazing collection of owls or take part in one of the feeding sessions.
Queen Elizabeth Country Park
Extensive woodland and dramatic scenery are the order of the day at Queen Elizabeth Park near Petersfield. Entry to the park is free (parking is reasonably priced too) and dogs are welcome. There are woodland trails to explore, several play areas for children, even an activity course for dogs, plus a cafe for when you need to refuel.
Royal Victoria Country Park
If you like the sound of 200 acres of spectacular parkland, foreshore and woodland overlooking Southampton Water, then this is the place for you. Amazingly, RVCP was once the site of a military hospital (the largest in the world), though all that remains now is the central chapel, which houses an exhibition of the site’s history. Elsewhere you’ll find play areas, interactive walks, a railway and an excellent cafe.

The Hawk Conservancy Trust
The 22-acre meadow is home to over 130 birds of prey including the pearl-spotted owlet, the enormous Steller’s sea eagle, the spectacular secretary bird (bit like a hawk on stilts) and the surprisingly beautiful vultures. Don’t miss the daily flying displays that take place in one of the three flying arenas, or the chance to get up close and personal with a ‘meet-and-greet’ encounter.
Stansted Park
Sitting on the Hampshire/Sussex border near Chichester, Stansted Park offers a great day out for the family in a heritage setting. Notable features include woodland walks, the stunning house itself, the Pavilion Tearoom set in the Victorian walled gardens and the farm shop, which sells high-quality, local produce.
