A prestigious award for licensees

Licensees are judged on many aspects of their work, including events, marketing, staff training and motivation, knowledge of the business and industry and more. The competition is known to be the toughest of its kind, with a rigorous four month judging process and on-site visit before the winner is revealed at the prestigious Summer Event.

Michelle, who has managed The Drayton Court in Ealing for the past three years and worked for Fuller’s for seven, said it’s an honour to be a finalist in the prestigious competition.

“I’m very pleased to be a finalist – it’s a great achievement and it’s great to be recognised outside of Fuller’s as well.”

This is the first year Michelle had applied, following a very successful year in 2018.

“We had a fantastic year last year, and we were recognised for it when we won The Griffin Trophy - Fuller’s Pub of the Year Award - in 2018. When the opportunity arose to enter the Best Licensee Competition I thought it was worth applying.”

A fantastic team

Michelle credits her success in becoming a finalist for the BII Licensee of the Year Award to excellent planning and a fantastic team.

“We plan our events well in advance – I already have our calendar planned up until February next year – and I’ve got an amazing team. I couldn’t do it without them. They are extremely hard working, dedicated and enjoyed our fantastic year. They’re all on various Fuller’s courses and it’s great watching them grow. I look forward to having a drink in their own pubs once they become General Managers.”

Michelle and the other finalists will now be put through their paces in a day of rigorous panel interviews on 3 June 2019. The following day, on 4 June, they will attend the BII Summer Event where the winner will be revealed.
