Mild May is back at The Harp
The Harp in Covent Garden [47 Chandos Place, London WC2N 4HS] is delighted to announce that its popular month-long celebration of the classic beer style Mild is back. For the month of May, Milds from brewers all over the country will be available at The Harp – the reigning champion of West London CAMRA’s Pub of the Year competition. To launch Mild May 2019, The Harp has teamed up with Sussex brewery Dark Star to brew its very own Mild.
The collaborative brew In to the Mild is a 3.5% ABV beer, brewed with seven different malt varieties and only two English hops – Warrior and EKG. Wheat and oats give the beer good body and the dark malts add layers of chocolate and some caramel sweetness. It will be available in The Harp from 1 May, where 10% of sales will go to the Dark Star Foundation – which supports causes local to Dark Star’s Partridge Green Brewery. Only 35 firkins of the beer were brewed – a majority of these will be going to The Harp, but there will be a limited number of firkins at other Fuller’s managed pubs in the area later on in May.
The Harp is famous for its ever-changing range of cask beers. Manager Paul Sims and his team source great brews and keep them at an exceptionally high standard. The pub has a dedicated fan base who continue to visit due to the team’s passion for top-quality beer. But it’s not only regulars who fill the cosy pub, The Harp’s reputation has travelled far and it’s a destination for anyone wanting to try great English beer in a great English pub.
Paul said: “Mild May is a really popular month here at The Harp and we’ve made it even more exciting this year with our very own Mild. The conversation started with Dark Star over Twitter about brewing a collaborative Mild and before we knew it a date was booked in to head down to Partridge Green. Dark Star’s Hophead is extremely popular at The Harp, so it was a logical partnership for brewing this very special Mild – The Harp’s first beer.
“The team down at Dark Star were incredible – they made sure we were as involved as possible. Dark Star brewer Alex Coulthart explained the process of the brew and how each of the ingredients would affect the final product. I’m over the moon with the end result – make sure you come to try it soon, I think The Harp’s Mild fans will ensure it won’t be around for long!”
