The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham wins Town Pub of the Year in The Good Pub Guide 2019

The Old Joint Stock in Birmingham has been named Town Pub of the Year 2019 in this year’s edition of The Good Pub Guide 2018. The pub, which is renowned in Birmingham for its stunning architecture and warm welcome, is also home to the Old Joint Stock Theatre – a boutique venue that is gaining a reputation for hosting brilliant small-scale performances.

The judged made the award, citing the pub’s “lively atmosphere, flamboyant interior, all-day popular food”, as well as the theatre, as the reasons it took the top spot. The pub is an oasis for beer lovers and is situated in the former Joint Stock Bank on Temple Row West and was converted to a pub in the 1990s. The theatre arrived in 2006 and hosts a wide range of popular shows, musicals and fringe theatre.

General Manager, Paul Bancroft, said: “I love this pub – it’s just such a stunning venue and my team and I are delighted to pick up such a prestigious award. We really do offer something for everyone – from a great pint of cask London Pride for our regular drinkers, to our sparkling gin evenings for those who prefer something with a twist, through to the amazing productions in our theatre – most recently including the first small-scale theatre production of the musical, The Full Monty. But the key thing is, that whatever the reason for your visit, we want you to feel right at home and leave knowing that you will be back again soon.”
