Dark Star launches ‘Holy Vible’ beer for charity
Dark Star Brewery, part of the Fuller’s family, partnered-up with UK Radio X DJs and comedians Elis James and John Robins to create a beer to celebrate the launch of their new book, The Holy Vible, with all profits from the beer going to charity.
The Holy Vible book and beer launch took place on 18 October at Waterstones bookstore on Tottenham Court Road in London, which commenced the duo’s nationwide book tour.
John and Elis read comedic excerpts from their book and answered questions from the audience at the sold-out event. Attendees also had the opportunity to try and buy the Holy Vible beer by Dark Star.
Dark Star joined the Fuller's family in February 2018 and is continuing to brew from its Partridge Green site. Dark Star’s most recent masterpiece, Holy Vible, is a 3.5% Session Pale Ale and will be available for a limited time.
All profits will go to charity
Dark Star is donating all profits of the beer to CALM: The Campaign Against Living Miserably, which aims to reduce the number of male suicides in the UK.
Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM, said he was delighted to partner with Elis, John, and Dark Star.
“As the guys have repeatedly shown, humour can be a brilliant way to start a conversation and, with CALM’s helpline information on the cans of this lovely Session Pale Ale, there’s every chance that one of those conversations could turn out to be life-saving,” he said.
Dark Star Managing Director James Cuthbertson said the brewery relished the chance to create the Holy Vible beer for charity.
“When John approached us with the idea it was really easy to agree to. He’s long been a supporter of ours and when it was suggested that we brew the beer to support CALM, well that fitted in perfectly with our ethos of using beer to do good, something that can be seen in the work our Foundation does each year.”
Encouraging a conversation
John said: “Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in this country. Men who perhaps felt unable to reach out, embarrassed to talk, or too alone to ask for help. It has to stop, and NOW. So, we've partnered with the wonderful team at CALM: The Campaign Against Living Miserably.
“In their offices is a sign which reads 'Being Silent Isn't Being Strong', and I couldn't agree more! So that's why I'm happy to shout from the rooftops to keep it session, speak to someone, read our book and try our beer!”
The Holy Vible: The Book The Bible Could Have Been, is available for purchase in hardback, audiobook and ebook from Amazon.
