Gales Seafarers Ale launches in a bottle

Sep 10, 2009

Seafarers Ale bottle

Following impressive initial growth and fantastic customer reaction in the on-trade, Fuller’s is delighted to announce that the latest addition to its award-winning cask range, Gales Seafarers Ale, will also be available in a 500ml bottle in selected Sainsbury’s stores from mid-September.

Seafarers Ale is an extraordinary cask ale, developed as a tribute to Gales' close association with all who sail the seas. Launched as a year-round beer in April 2009, Seafarers Ale has already sailed past the 1,000 barrels sold mark, resulting in a donation to Seafarers UK, the leading maritime charity, of £5,000.

The charity donation is ongoing and was recently increased to £5 per barrel, backdated to the very first pint.

The bottled beer is 4.2% ABV and features the distinctive Seafarers Ale logo showing a classic ship under full sail. The recipe includes Admiral hops, which give the beer a zesty, bracing aroma that is balanced perfectly by well-developed fruity malt flavours.

David Spencer, brands marketing manager for Fuller’s, said: “Seafarers Ale is wonderfully light and refreshing, and while its voyage has only just begun, we’re thrilled that Sainsbury’s is keen to join us.

“We are dedicated to sharing the beer’s success with Seafarers UK and having recently increased the donation per barrel, we are now focussing on extending its distribution to a wider audience, including the off trade.”

Nic Storey, Beer & Cider Buyer for Sainsbury’s, said: “We've seen how popular Seafarers has been in the on-trade and are delighted to include it as one of our seasonal guest ales for September and October. Sainsbury's customers are very discerning in their choice of ales and, having tasted Seafarers, I'm sure it will go down well. Knowing they will be donating to a good cause at the same time will also appeal to them I'm sure."
